Keeping Your Goals On Track

No matter whether you're dieting, just eating healthy, or being an eco-warrior, sometimes you crave something that is outside of your current situation. Sometimes you crave burgers, and they aren't on your diet. Luckily, there are several alternatives they can enjoy that are debatably BETTER than an actual burger; even vegan options! There isn't always an alternative for what you're craving, and so you may decide to give in. You may decide to go ahead and eat that ice cream when you're trying to avoid sugar.

Its easy to just give up after that, but this type of setback doesn't have to completely derail you. Its just one time. You can pick your healthy food habits back up and carry on as if you never ate that slice of pie.  Maybe you actually needed it to affirm your chosen path. Maybe it helped keep your sanity in check. Maybe it just hit the spot! We are all constantly improving even when we feel like giving up.

Its very important to remember what your goals are. A good way to do this is to write down your goal, and all the steps you need to make in order to reach that goal. As you complete each step, put a mark next to it.

If my goal is to go low carb, then I need a game plan. I cant just quit carbs "Cold Turkey". So, today I will eat less carbs than yesterday. Tomorrow, the carbs I eat will be whole grain only. Next week I will take it a step further until I'm at my goal.

Maybe my goal is to go vegan. I can start by doing Meatless Monday, or even replacing scrambled eggs with a tofu scramble. Hamburger patties with Beyond Burger patties, or Impossible Burger patties (both of which are amazing, by the way). Maybe Eggplant Parmigiana instead of Chicken.

If your goal is doable, then you just need to figure out how to make it work for you. Writing all of the steps down and marking them off as your complete each step is a great way to track your progress. Its also a great way to keep motivated!
